Have you ever been craving smores, but also donuts and go stuck in a loop going do I want smores? Or donuts? smores? or donuts?!
Heeey, I gotta idea! Why not combine both smores and donuts into one delicious dessert? And I'll call it, well, smore donuts 🙂 Or possible smores donuts? Without or without and '? Donuts or doughnuts??
Eh, potato, potato. I digress. Back to the donuts.
Turns out, yes you can combine the two and it's so deliciously easy you'll be kicking yourself you didn't do it sooner.
Basically you replace the graham crackers with donuts. But there's a little more to it in terms of oven temperatures etc or if you're a beginner cook and need smore more guidance (see what I did there :D).

Flavor variations
The sky is really the limit when it comes to changing up the flavors of these easy s'mores donuts. Why not try making:
- Add a few slices of banana for banana smores
- Spread peanut butter for peanut butter smores
- Swap the milk chocolate for white, dark or your favorite flavored chocolate.
- Add a few slices of fresh strawberry, raspberry or a little jam for chocolate berry smores

Ingredients
Donuts: plain, simple glaze or if you can get them, cinnamon sugar donuts work well if you can get them.
Marshmallows: an essential ingredient in any s'more. I find jumbo ones are best as you get good coverage and they are less likely to move around.
Milk chocolate: Hershey's milk chocolate is the classic for this recipe, but you can use whatever type of chocolate you like, it just needs to fit on the donut!
How to make smore donuts
See the full recipe card at the end of the post for ingredient amounts and instructions.
Put your broiler to heat up. Line a baking tray with baking paper (trust me sticky melted marshmallows on a baking tray is not fun to clean!).
Cut the donuts in half. If you are having trouble slicing the donuts try using a serrated knife. Slice the marshmallows into two or three pieces. Break the chocolate up into donut sized pieces.
Place the donuts on the lined baking tray cut side up. Broil for about one minute until warmed. Remove and add the sliced marshmallows to one side of the cut donuts.
Return to the broiler and broil for a few minutes until the marshmallows are melty and toasted to your liking.
Hot tip: You must watch the donuts the whole time they are under the broiler. They can go from undercooked to burning Very Fast.
Remove as soon as they are done. You may need to turn the tray halfway through if your broiler does not cook evenly.
Add the chocolate pieces to the toasted marshmallow and the other half of the warmed on top. Allow to stand for several seconds to let the chocolate melt, then tuck into the delicious warm, melty, chocolaty marshmallowy smores goodness!
You'll be singing Kumbaya around the campfire before you know it!
How to serve
To serve the smores doughnuts grab them while they are still warm and all melty ooey gooey and dig in!
How to store
Nope, these donut smores don't store well. They need to be eaten fresh while they are still warm, gooey and delicious. You can, at a pinch, pop them into an airtight container and reheat them the next day. They won't be nearly as good, but they will still be safe to eat. They are not suitable for home freezing.
Tips for success and frequently asked questions
What sort of donuts should I use?
Plain, filled donuts work best. I personally like cinnamon donuts but any plain or simply glazed donut will do.
Can I make these on a campfire?
You sure can. Simply slice the donuts and sandwich marshmallows toasted over the campfire in between the two slices, and add chocolate as you would for regular campfire smores.
You can try gently heating the donuts over the campfire if you wish, but be careful not to drop them into the fire!
Can I make these in the microwave?
You can, but you smores will be softer and soggier and won't have that delicious, toasted marshmallow flavor. To make them in the microwave heat the sliced donuts for several seconds. Add the slices of marshmallows and microwave until the marshmallows are melted.
In my experience microwaving marshmallows makes them puff up a Lot so be sure to give them a few seconds to return to their normal size before adding the chocolate. Otherwise the marshmallow will end up everywhere but on your smores.
Can I make these in the air fryer?
In theory yes. Hower in my experience the marshmallow tends to fly around the air fryer and end up a lopsided sticky mess. If I find a solution to this I'll let you know!
