Ingredients
Fruity Pebbles Cereal: I have used the original Fruity Pebbles cereal in this recipe but in theory it should work equally well with any of the other Fruity Pebbles variants.
Marshmallows: an essential ingredient in Rice Krispies treats. Look for white marshmallows to keep the color clean or mix things up with different colors.
Unsalted Butter: because butter makes most things taste better. But it also helps set the Rice Krispies treats.
How to make Rice Krispies Treats with Fruity Pebbles
See the full recipe card at the end of the post for ingredient amounts and instructions.
Line your tin with parchment paper. I use a little butter to help the paper stick to the tin.
Add the marshmallows and butter to a large pot and heat on medium-low. Stir occasionally until the marshmallows and butter are melted and mix in together.
Add the Fruity Pebbles cereal and mix well. Make sure you get to the bottom and the edges of the pot where the marshmallow mix can pool.
Tip the mix into the lined tin and gently flatten.
Hot tip: Use two silicon spatulas to scoop the mix out. If one of your spatulas gets too much marshmallow stuck to it, switch it out for a clean one. This will make it easier to handle the mix and get it into the tin.
Allow to set for at least two hours and up to overnight at room temperature before slicing.
To slice gently remove from the tin by lifting the edges of the parchment paper. Use a large clean knife to cut into slices. It's easier to push straight down rather than using a sawing motion. If the mix starts to stick to the knife clean the knife between slices.

Tips for success and frequently asked questions
Can I make this with a different variety of Fruity Pebbles?
I have tested this recipe with a different brand of Cocoa Pebbles cereal and it was still delicious.
In theory yes, the recipe should work equally well with the other Fruity Pebbles varieties that are a different color but otherwise the same shape, such as Halloween, Summer Fruity, Berry or Spring.
It would also probably work with marshmallow or Waffle Fruity Pebbles, but I haven't tested these to see if the ratios are right to make sure everything sticks together.
These are yummy but on the sweet side. Can I make them less sweet?
My kids loved them as they are. But for a less sweet version for the bigger kids try replacing half the Fruity Pebbles with regular Rice Krispies. This will make your Rice Krispies treats a bit less colorful and less sweet, but still equally delicious.
My Rice Krispies treats have set really hard, help!
There may be a couple of reasons for this:
- The marshmallow mix was heated up to hot. High heat can make the sugar in the marshmallows set like toffee. Make sure your pot is on medium-low next time and let the marshmallow butter mix melt more slowly.
- The mix was pressed too hard when added to the tin. Try pressing more gently next time. A clean silicon spatula can help with this and smooth out the top before setting.
