These shredded wheat Easter nests are super cute and could not be easier. With just three ingredients and only melting chocolate they are a super simple no-bake Easter treat the kids just about make themselves (with some supervision of course).
The shredded wheat in these Easter Egg nests also means they have some whole grains and fiber, making a slightly more healthy Easter treat!

What cereal is best for Easter nests?
For the best nest look I prefer shredded wheat chocolate nests. The long thin strands of the shredded wheat look the most twig-like in my opinion.
Can I make Easter chocolate nests with other cereal?
Absolutely. If you are not a fan of shredded wheat you could use other cereal such as corn flakes, rice puffs or even crispy fried noodles.
Can I make shredded wheat Easter nests with other chocolate?
Yes defiantly. I used milk chocolate here to keep things simple but you could use white, dark or even ruby chocolate. You could also use flavored chocolate, however I don't recommend filled chocolate. The filling won't mix in properly and will stop the nests from sticking together properly.
Shredded wheat: is a type of breakfast cereal that comes in large, pillow-shaped biscuits.
Chocolate: I used plain old milk compound cooking chocolate in these chocolate nests. It's a budget-friendly choice and works just fine. You can use more premium chocolate if you like or mix things up with dark, milk or ruby chocolate.
Easter eggs: I use speckled Easter eggs. I like the slightly larger eggs but you can use smaller ones. You could use wrapped eggs but you then need to peel them before eating them of course.
How to make shredded wheat nests
It's easiest to make the nest shape by making them in regular muffin tins. You can line them with patty pans if you like, but I found it was easy to get them out without doing this. You could also make mini nests if regular muffin size is too big for you.
First break apart the shredded wheat. Try to break them into longer pieces to retain the stick-like look of it.
Next break the chocolate into pieces, put it into a microwave-proof bowl and melt in the microwave, about a minute at a time, checking between bursts and stirring as the chocolate starts to melt.
Pour the chocolate over the shredded wheat and mix well.
Divide evening between ten to twelve muffin tins. Use a spoon to create a hollow in the middle for the nest shape. Add Easter eggs, cover and refrigerate for one hour to set.
Remove from fridge and use a butter knife to gently unstick the nests from the muffin tins.
How to serve
To serve these easy Easter chocolate nests pop them onto a plate and enjoy with your best bunnies. These would make great gifts wrapped in some clear cellophane or would be a great easy option for an Easter bake sale.
How to store
These cute Easter nests will store well in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. After this they will still be edible but the shredded wheat may start to lose its crunch.

Shredded wheat nests
- 12 hole muffin tins
- 3.5 oz (100 gms) shredded wheat, approx. 4 medium pieces
- 12 oz block (350gms) milk chocolate
- 2 x 3.5 oz packs (100gms each) small Easter eggs
- Break the shredded wheat apart, trying to retain some of the longer strands.
- Break apart the chocolate. Put into a microwave proof bowl and melt in microwave for one minute bursts, checking in between each and stirring as needed to help it melt.
- Pour the melted chocolate over the shredded wheat and mix well.
- Divide the mix into ten to twelve muffin tins. Use a spoon to from a hollow in the each to form the sides of the nests.
- Add Easter eggs to each nest. Cover and set in fridge for one hour.
- Remove from fridge and use a butter knife to gently unstick the nests from the muffin tins.
- Pop onto a plate and enjoy with you best bunnies!
