Caramelized bananas

These caramelized bananas are quick, easy and delicious. On the table in just fifteen minutes, they are delicious on their own or with a scoop of ice cream. If you like bananas foster you are going to love these.

Ingredients

  • 4 medium ripe bananas
  • ¼ cup (60gms) brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon (20gms) butter or margarine
  • 2 tablespoons (40gms) golden syrup or light treacle
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 pinch salt

Instructions
 

  • Peel the bananas and cut them length ways, then in half.
  • Heat the fry pan on medium high heat.
  • Add the bananas, flat side down and allow to cook for a couple of minutes.
  • Add the butter, brown sugar, golden syrup, nutmeg and salt.
  • Flip the bananas once, giving the pan a gentle swirl to combine the caramel and spoon some of the liquid over the bananas.
  • Cook for another few minutes until bananas are golden brown and caramelized and cooked through.
  • Transfer to plates or bowls and serve immediately. Fabulous on its own, with some whipped cream or a scoop of banana or vanilla ice cream. Delicious!
